Why was Bush hiding during the last 6 months of his Presidency?

Do you guys remember Bush just disappeared during his last 6 months in office? No more press conferences . And whenever the news caught him on camera he was pacing frantically in the opposite direction of the camera. He just vanished up until around the time of the wall street bailouts. Then he did the TV thing saying wall street was about to crash. That TV Notice was the first time Bush showed his face in months. Why did he hide out the last 6 months of his term?
